The final result of UPSC’s Combined Civil Services Examination (CCSE) 2018 was declared on Friday. Eighteen candidates from Gujarat have cleared the exam; one has made it to Top 100. Kartik Jivani, a BTech student, has passed with mechanical engineering as a subject and got the all-India rank (AIR) of 94, a first for Gujarat.
The analysis of the results shows that three candidates passed the exam in the first attempt, five in the second, and two in the third. Six successful candidates are in the 20-25 age group, 13 in the 25-30 age group, and one in the 30+ age group.
Dhananjay Dwivedi, the director of Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA), said that even as the number of vacancies declared by the UPSC is shrinking, the performance of the institute has remained high. “Factors such as better awareness and preparation have contributed to good results,” he said. “In 2017-18, there were 22 successful candidates. In 2016-17, the number was 19.”
Alpesh Panchal, who got the 583rd rank, is an employee in the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering. The son of a carpenter and resident of Ghatlodia, Panchal prepared for the examination while working. “I studied mechanical engineering at IIT Bombay and later started preparation for civil services. I am hopeful of entering the IPS or the IRS cadre.”
Kanishak Kataria, a B Tech from IIT Bombay, has topped the civil services final examination 2018, results of which were announced by the UPSC on Friday, while Srushti Jayant Deshmukh is the topper among women candidates securing an overall fifth rank. In a statement, the UPSC said a total of 759 candidates (577 men and 182 women) have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc.
As many as 18 candidates from Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) in the city have been successful. Of the 43 who had cleared the mains exams, after personal interviews, 18 have been recommended for appointment. Kartik Jivani, a mechanical engineering graduate from SPIPA, has secured 94th rank.
